Retro Booze :-)

#0, by princeoffish, 14 February 2009 07:08 PM

I began my drinking career in the mid 80s after I realised I would not make a living @ professional sport grin
So, here's a few beers from then that you don't see now
Double Diamond
Colt 45 (In a can)
Skol Lager (Draught/Can bottles ) Haven't seen this in pubs for years
In my neck of the woods there is no longer a local brewery so all the lager/bitter and mild they produced have long gone crying
Can anyone else add to this list ??

OOooohhh great topic Andy....Retro ale, isn't that this morning's puke.....wink
Although I much prefer future booze, I was always partial to Sam Smiths draught bitters, and the strange Laugenbrau?? lager that accompanies them, although you rarely see it now outside of their own ale houses...and although 'tis not the favoured tipple up here (local folk assume it's only fit for soft southerner's as it isn't all that bitter) I prefer it to J.Smiths or that Tetly stuff as it tastes better, is usually cheaper and comes from Yorkshire's oldest brewery in Tadcaster.

Another one that is becoming scarcer (round these parts anyway) is Heineken...

Reminds me....I feel a little dry now actually devil

Well, I'm all broken up over that man's rights!

Adding to this , I remember in the mid 80s you could buy very few bottled beers (I think a lot of this in Hull was due to the possibility of viloence )
As far as bottled beer goes we could get Newcastle Brown, Heineken ,Pils and possibly Skol Special .
Thats as far as I can remember .. By god now you can buy anything you want !

Newcastle Brown has a similar effect on me as LSD ...  Alters my personality ..  Did overdo this stuff in the mid 8os though devil

I fondly remember Double Diamond and have sunk many a tin of Colt 45 too.
I used to like Crucial Brew, Fargo draught, Stones bitter, Inch's Cider in big green stills and another tasty draught Charles Wells bitter the name of which eludes me at present.
I also used to enjoy the odd pint of mild and bitter, a drink much enjoyed by my Grandfather, and I'm also rather impartial to a light and bitter, too.

I'm pretty much a typical English bloke I like beer and it must come in pints grin

I used to get my share of my Dads Mackeson's Milk Stout..   which I still like today
Glad you guys reminded me of Colt 45 I wish they still brewed it, loved the taste
As a teen me and my mates all drank Woodpecker cider, it was the in drink in Bridgend where I was brought up
And of course HOFMEISTER lager, I still remember the hangovers

Here's a pic of my youngest brother from around 1988 , he would have been 16 then , let's call it a retro booze pic . And yes, that is a bottle of vodka .... I have no qualms about putting this here as he does not own a PC nor use one in his job , he is rather calmer now
