Apple scrumping

Not sure what you guys called it but we called it scrumping!

i loved the season when the apples were ready to rob off the trees.
many a night would be spent taking apples off local trees, usually in peoples back gardens,we would even scrump off the trees of neighbours, harmless fun really but it was a buzz getting chased by the owner of the house.wink

other activities included :

Gate lifting
postmans knock
scalling(running through peoples gardens)
budding(throwing rose buds at peoples windows, not intended to break them)
You dont see it with todays kids,to busy robbing cars and carrying weapons i suppose.

The only time I ever went apple knicking the gang of us got caught, and the geezer who owned the allotment threatened us with jail...we were only about 7....the lot of us managed to leg it as he was frog-marching us down a dirt road....we reckoned he was a Nazi.

Had a nasty habit of lifting milk bottles one time, when it was late; me and me mate would sneak by doorways, pick 'em up and then chuck em on the railway lines to watch the glass shatter....daft I know....but I had to it that up last week as I'm not as nimble as I was...wink

Well, I'm all broken up over that man's rights!

I can do one better, our milkman Phil come to deliver some milk to our house, and somehow (i was only 5 or 6)mangaged to get into his float and ride off down the street,Phil was chasing after me,(remember floats only go about 5 mile an hour, well then anyway, late 70's)and managed to jump in and stop it.Funnily enough he was not angry and he did not tell me off,but i had it off my father though, when he finished work.
