Ford Escort XR3

Now come on, who had one of these little monsters, all spammed up with the flashes and fancy bits and extra lights....and some came with a little 'i' on the end to announce that you were just that little bit more of a tw*t...

Here's one on a classice car site...

http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/uploads/new/235233.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C41072&usg=__6QDmc_cXHDEKx9V-r0jlOJbkjys=&h=375&w=500&sz=30&hl=en&start=52&sig2=M_y6yBz_KR3EyrOYqZ9A7Q&um=1&tbnid=zEpfBvmBLFBHnM:&tbnh=98&tbnw=130&ei=XCmUSfHzA8_DjAfAk8yqCw&prev=/images%3Fq%3D%2522XR3%2522%26start%3D40%26ndsp%3D20%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26sa%3DN

Now I did have one, but it was a company car, and in 1990, and was a little tardy for the new decade. Still it got me down the M1 every Friday night in about 3 hours (had me a little lassy down there back then) but I bust it one night on the way back, and had to get towed home from Leicester...

Glory days....

Well, I'm all broken up over that man's rights!

Great thread Ian,i remember when they first came out,i think the only colour people were having at first were red.
the bloke down the bottom of our road had a brand new one absolute mint it was,me and my mates were in ore of it.
Later he would have the rs turbo and many more,he still lives at the same adress and is knocking near 50 now and still drives a nice motor,Audi tt i think it is now.
i was a lover of the capri as a kid, loved the lazer but also loved the mk1 etc.
What a dissapointment it was when ford introduced the probe,to basically replace it...god what a let down.
Why cant ford bring the capri back in its original shape and up date it just a little and see how it sells.
i saw a new mustang whilst driving the other day, what a stunning beast of a car.grin

Whilst I did have a MKIII for a while is wasn't an XR3, I did however only buy it as something practical as my daily drive at the time was a full race spec MKII Escort with a seriously tuned 2.0 litre pinto, 7x13" Superlites, forest arches, full roll cage, seam welded shell, modded Capri rear axle, straight cut box, dash mounted fuses for quick change..........it had the lot.
Went like the proverbial, drop it from fourth into third at about 80mph, then floor it and it would still leave two black lines up the road.
An absolutely mental car, would eat RS Turbos and BMW 325is no problem, could even take on cossies and Evo IIIs up to a point as it only had a top speed of around 110mph.
What a beast devil

Not sure how I lived through that one.

I had a bit of a thing for Escorts owning five at one time 2x MkI, MkII, MkII and MkIII van, with three on the road.
Mind you the van did have an XR3 engine fitted and was even faster than the hatch because it weighed less surprise
