PEARL & DEAN PRESENTS
Pearl & Dean Presents
its just like sitting in a half empty cinema, even down to the sound .....wonderful stuff
Love these Mr. K, the crinkled curtains coming down, or swishing across, just after they've openned and you think, what the hell....I thought we were starting this thing....then openned again and pah pah pa pah pa pah pa pah pa pa pah...and into an intro of wonderfully made ads....Rothmans cigs anyone...Gordon's Gin, and local merchants, reminders that the aisle person will be along shortly shouting...."Albatross ....albatross...." well maybe that was only during the Flying Circus....but wonderful memories there, and even now I miss that fog of fag smoke that used to swirl in the projectionist's cinema beams....can never remember coughing at it or people moaning like helpless infants....all those smokers....in the dark....would love to open a cinema like that now just to piss the purveyors of homogeny off....

I can remember freezing to death in the ABC cinema in Hull (Now demolished for another garish shopping centre) during the winter . Plus there used to be a fantastic advert for westlers hot dogs ! As kids it made us chuckle that it resembled a certain part of the male anatomy !!!
yep they brought the original theme music back a while ago as a bit of a nostalgic re-inventing to give some of the oldies a treat i guess

I used to love that ABC Andy, especially living here. Back then we did have a cinema, but it was a small independent affair that would get the latest releases some months after (would probably make a bomb now as an "Art House" type thing) anyway, I will always remember going to Hull with my Dad to watch "Star Wars" ('77) and not being able to believe it was really going to happen....great memories. Also saw King Kong ('76 version) Grease, Jaws 2...ah...good memories.
Still the new place....St. Stephens.??...is a damn site better than the eyesore the old ABC had been for 20 years, and there's still a cinema in it, and it's still right off the station.![]()
This is the cinema from my youth...The Plaza

My first memories are watching James Bond "Live And Let Die" with my parents in the early 70s.. and its where I took many a date ![]()
Built in 1939, it was a landmark of Port Talbot. Its been left abandoned and rotting for the last 20 yrs.

I suppose you lot think I'm old enough to remember the music halls. The Astoria and Embassey were the nearest Cinemas to me. There was always an ad for the nearest Curry house (800yds from this Cinema).
Took a look at the interior shots of your local AB, has it changed since you were last there? If not it must've been a real HOT DATE for you to wreck the place like that.
Some classic footage of the ABC in Hull as mentioned previous
Oh my goodness. Whatever happened to Lyons Maid.
