SCHOOL DINNERS- what was your fovourite

#0, by kollect-o-maniak, 24 January 2009 03:28 AM

School dinners where the best when I was a nipper, I know people knock them some times but they would sometimes be the best food memory from when we were kids , Mine was Cheese pie with tinned tomatoes and chips followed by that thick sponge with pink icing in covered in thick lumpy custard OM NOM NOM NOM grin

Ok over to you

AAhhh School Milk................I remember in the winter the crate was left outside so the milk froze solid, and then the milk monitor( I never got to be the milk monitorcrying) would bring in the milk and leave it by the radiator to warm up , tepid milk eeeewwwww sad

Oi!I was a milk monitor in the juniors, the perks being we could have 2 or 3 bottles of the stuff. In the winter it used to go on the radiator, but i seemed to like warm pasterized milk then, and still do now,do not like stone cold milk,it has to be at room temp, mad or what.

Mine was Cheese pie with tinned tomatoesand chips followed by that thick sponge with pink icing in covered inthick lumpy custard OM NOM NOM NOM

.

Me too,i always had the cheese pie, chips, but with beans,my favourite pudding was chocolate sponge a green mint custard. Why everyone says school dinners were horrible,i loved them.

Never liked the milk, the ONLY thing I ever agreed with Thatcher about...

Favourite food was ....nothing really, it was all shite if I remember rightly...especially after we found the pig swill bins they used to slop the leftovers in afterwards...

You had bottles Schmungo? We had those pyramid cartons at my school and there were never enough straws to go round or so it seemed. My favourite school dinner was chicken pie with mash potato followed by chocolate sponge and chocolate sauce. Yum!

Mashed Tattie and mince followed by the pink iced sponge and custard -or the iced ginger cake and custard. We got the milk in bottles too. Was never a milk monitor but did get to be a "server" at school dinners. Did go home for lunch quite often but was always late back to school again. I still remember that sinking feeling of getting near to the school and not hearing the noise of all the kids in the playground. That meant that they had all gone in and I was late yet again!

I loved macaroni cheese with roast potatoes.  Cauliflower cheese wasn't bad, although mushroom stroganoff almost made me puke.
My high school had great desserts.  Bread and butter pudding, spotted dick, Manchester tart, jam roly poly, apricot crumble with custard and peach sponge.  Mmmmmm.

I vaguely remember having a pudding that was sponge on the top and some kind of pinapple fruit at the bottom, sort of like an upside down cake , and the SCHOOL RICE PUDDING was to die for.

It all went wrong when they introduced healthy eating, yoghurt and a biscuit for pudding,or a salad roll for dinner. This happened in my fourth year ish, we all started going to the shop then.
